Résumé

This paper aims to analyse the performance of a domestic water-cooling device and to reduce its environmental impact. A dynamic model of a compact evaporator used in a commercial domestic water-cooling machine was developed. The heat exchanger under consideration is a coil immersed in a water tank. During operation in the current design, ice formation occurs around the coil of the evaporator. The dynamic model analyses the heat transfer to assess the effect of the presence of ice. The ice formation produces a lowering of the heat transfer, which reduces the overall performance, in particular, the COP and the energy consumption are respectively 6% lower and higher than in the case without ice. However, ice represents a latent thermal storage, which can guarantee one-hour of cooling while the compressor of the cooling device is off.
