Summary
The ECLER program, an energy saving program implemented by CEMAFROID, aims to identify and achieve energy savings in the use of refrigerated trucks. The program is based on the training of delivery drivers to implement good practices during deliveries. Each good practice was identified and quantified in laboratory studies conducted by Cemafroid. To evaluate the global energy savings generated by this program, a methodology has been developed by the AFF to quantify the impact of each good practice in terms of energy savings. The calculation is carried out using a top-down method, starting from the maximum potential savings generated by a good practice, and reducing them to a standard activity of a delivery driver for a type of refrigerated transport equipment. The total savings are based on a model that considers the additivity of certain savings or the non-additivity of these savings. The application of the program over time makes it possible to evaluate a general saving that can be estimated on the basis of the conventional service life of the equipment, the evolution of their thermal characteristics over time and the appropriation of good practices by the drivers.
This article will successively present the method used, the data used to evaluate the general savings generated by this program for the fleet of vehicles concerned in France and the resulting savings. The savings in fossil energy, mainly related to the consumption of road and non-road diesel, generated by the program make it possible to evaluate the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by the application of the above-mentioned good practices.
