R474A - New working fluid for BEV thermal management.

Résumé

To maximize the range of battery electric vehicles (BEV), increased requirements are made on energy efficiency and weight reduction. Since the energy density of batteries and waste heat flows are lower in BEVs than in internal combustion engines, energy and waste heat must be used as efficiently as possible within the framework of thermal management. R-474A makes it possible to extend the air-conditioning (AC) system with the heat pump (HP) function down to ambient temperatures of -30°C. R-474A behaves electrically inert. Therefore, it can be used directly for immersion cooling of electrical components such as power electronics and motors. The advantageous pressure position makes it possible to implement this in a weight-saving way. The lecture presents the thermophysical, chemical and material compatibility properties of R-474A. Cycle simulations, system and vehicle tests provide information about efficiency and performance improvements compared to existing solutions for thermal management of BEVs. A summary of the current development program together with an outlook on the next steps will conclude the presentation.
