Homogenic cryotherapy for heat camera diagnostic.

Résumé
Cryotherapy effects the human body in numerous ways, many of which can be made visible with the help of a heat camera. Refolution developed a cold sauna that only uses air (R729) as a refrigerant along with a low moisture and high homogeneity chamber. We achieved an unprecedented homogeneity of maximum 2 K variance (between top and bottom) even though cooled air is heavy and tends to have many temperature layers with high temperature differences up to 200 K. The measurements were validated with a Phoenix TM measurement system. Because the human body gets exposed with nearly the exact the same dose of cold in our cold sauna, this now enables a precise measuring with a heat camera as warmer skin means increased blood supply. Client measurements on the surface of the skin demonstrated reproducible patterns for specific symptoms. For example, a temperature difference between 10-18 degrees K indicated an area of inflammation. Muscle soreness form exercise produced a relatively symmetrical pattern with surface areas differing cca 5-10 degrees K from one another. Effects from hormones, nervous system, and thyroid can be demonstrated in the area of the client’s neck. Our method also produced an insight on optimal skin temperature and cryotherapy exposure time. Depending on the client’s skin color, hair type, body composition, and other individual factors, the optimal exposure time of cryotherapy to reach a skin temperature drop down to +8°C can range from 1.5 to 5 min. An individual’s optimal exposure time can be determined by taking a measurement immediately after the session and adjusting the time for the next session accordingly. This method of optimizing exposure time and standardizing skin temperature for diagnostics could be further developed and systemized for a better cryotherapy treatment. One future solution could be a walk-through cold sauna that can treat over 1000 individuals per day, and which utilizes image recognition software to automatically produce diagnostics and recommendations for the most effective cryotherapy treatment.
