Is the hole in the ozone layer really responsible for the change in our climate?
Author(s) : AUCAMP P. J.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The HCFCs that were regarded as the solution for the ozone problem turned out to be a problem for the climate change problem due to their high GWPs. This and the fact that the reduction in ozone has a negative global warming potential led to a complex relationship between the attempts to repair the ozone layer and global warming. This is discussed in the paper. The paper concludes with an indication of how South Africa plans to manage this problem with its envisaged ozone depleting substances regulations.
